Fourth Street Live! donates new ATV to Louisville Police Department

The Louisville Metro Police Department is getting help patrolling the downtown area.

Fourth Street Live! has partnered with the Police Foundation to donate a new ATV to the department's fleet.

ATVs can help in ways patrol cars can't, like getting into alleyways and other tight spots.

Officials say the ATV will also allow officers to better interact with the public.

"You'll notice there's no walls, there's no windows on these pieces of equipment, so we go shoulder-to-shoulder, face-to-face with the community when we utilize this equipment," said Lieutenant Ron Heady.

The LMPD will use the $65,000 ATV to patrol downtown and the waterfront at events like Waterfront Wednesday and the Forecastle Festival.
