Job seekers flood new casino job fair

Hundreds of jobs will soon open up at the new Indiana Live! Casino in Shelbyville.

The Indiana Live! Casino is hosting the first of three job fairs to fill those positions and the response has been overwhelming.

Friday afternoon a long line of people waited hours for a chance at 350 jobs. The general manager of the casino was on hand trying to keep
the hordes of people who showed up for the job fair organized.

“This is a wonderful turnout...in front of your customer,” said Mark Hemmerle, Casino General Manager.

The 233,000 square-foot permanent casino will open in the next few months. There’s already a casino in a temporary building. Those who came to check out the new jobs hope they’ll be able to beat the competition.

They’re hoping to get jobs as waitresses, security people, cashiers and more. It’s a land of plenty in a job market that’s become increasingly desolate.

Last year, 420 jobs were filled when the casino first opened in its temporary quarters. Those employees will also be part of the new casino.
