NORFOLK, Va. —  Two local companies are moving into the new Waterside District and they tell 10 on Your Side the decision to open up shop was an easy one.

The announcement about the new businesses came Thursday.

Cogan’s Pizza and Carolina Cupcakery will make their debut next spring when the Waterside District opens up on the Norfolk waterfront.

Cogan’s is already well-known at its two Norfolk locations for beer selection and pizzas, and their new location will feature two signature wood-burning pizza ovens in full view of their guests.

“When we decided to open our third location, we knew it had to be at Waterside District,” said Richard Katz, Co-Founder of Cogan’s Pizza. “Norfolk likes to take care of their own and so business-wise it was a good call on their part and they wanted the best of the best so we are happy to be at the top of their list.”

Katz said the decision was an easy one because of the reputation that follow The Cordish Companies.

“We are excited to be a part of the revitalization of waterside and the Cordish companies, we’ve been up to see their venues in other cities, their operations are first class,” said Katz.

Also adding to the mix, is Carolina Cupcakery, a local bake shop which features more than 300 different flavors of cupcakes made from all-natural ingredients.

“Cordish has been so great to work with. They’re allowing us to do everything the way we know works best. Our new Norfolk location will be (a literal) extension of Carolina Cupcakery from the upcycled decor to local sourced ingredients and over-the-top flavors,” said Dawn Eskins, Founder of Carolina Cupcakery. “We will even be able to offer Cupcake Wars birthday parties in this awesome setting.”

Cake designer Pam Ciavarra says they are thrilled to bring their specialized cupcakes to the people of Norfolk. The company has been featured on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars” twice in the past.

“We are just so excited to be right in the middle of everything. We offer gourmet cupcakes and food allergy cupcakes for people  which is a big deal,” said Pam Ciavarra. “We are just thrilled to be asked. It’s a great family-friendly atmosphere.”

The City of Norfolk says that the Waterside District will feature a variety of unique food and beverage concepts as well as a home for entertainment, festivals and family attractions. More announcements about the development are expected in coming months.
