Blade & Timber Flipping from West Bottoms to Power & Light District
Blade & Timber is throwing its axe from the West Bottoms and burying it in the Power & Light District with plans to relocate to 13th and Baltimore by late summer.
The popular axe-throwing hangout that opened its first location in 2017 at 1101 Mulberry St. has been lured to space formerly occupied by Kobe, a Japanese steakhouse, at 1303 Baltimore.
The owners say they’re delighted to introduce their sharp edge to a place that was once the domain of fast-chopping Japanese chefs.
Since opening its first establishment in the Bottoms, Blade & Timber has expanded to six locations nationwide including Hawaii and Seattle.
“We work each day to grow Blade & Timber as a brand focused on bringing people together for a remarkable experience,” co-founder Matt Baysinger said in a statement.
“This new location is a huge step to bring our Kansas City community a top-of-the-line axe throwing experience.
Nick Benjamin, executive director of the Power & Light District, said he was delighted that Blade & Timber and its parent entity Swell Spark were coming to the District.
“We are always looking for ways to add great local concepts and add entertainment elements to the Power & Light District,” he said in a statement.
“Blade & Timber and he creative minds at Swell Spark check both these boxes.”
The new Blade & Timber will offer 11 throwing lanes, beverages and an expanded selection of entertainment including darts and yard games, according to a release announcing the move.
The establishment welcomes all ages and allows anyone 10 years-old or older to throw axes. The space will feature accordian-style doors on the north and west sides of the venue to open it up to the outside.
“We are excited to continue growing our brand nationally while staying true to our roots,” co-founder Ryan Henrich said in a statement. “The Power & Light District allows us to be in the middle of the Kansas City entertainment scene.”
