Cardinals, Cordish name 3 new tenants for Ballpark Village's second phase

The St. Louis Cardinals and development partner Cordish Cos. on Wednesday announced three new tenants for the second phase of Ballpark Village.

The tenants include bar and restaurant Sports & Social St. Louis, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse and retailer Baseballism. Each concept will be new to St. Louis.

The Cardinals and Cordish Cos. said Wednesday’s announcement is one of many they plan to make to name ground floor tenants for Ballpark Village’s second phase of development. The two parties said Ballpark Village’s 75,000 square feet of second-phase ground floor dining, entertainment and retail space is currently 92% leased.

Including tenant buildout, development of Ballpark Village’s second phase is expected to top $300 million.

“We are excited to welcome Sports & Social St. Louis, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse and Baseballism to Ballpark Village,” Bill DeWitt III, president of the St. Louis Cardinals, said in a statement. “These concepts will bring great new energy to Ballpark Village and will help us attract new residents, office workers and visitors to downtown.”

Sports & Social St. Louis will be located on the ground floor of Ballpark Village’s new, three-story Onelife Fitness building and include a number of games, including ping pong, skeeball and foosball. The 9,000-square-foot restaurant, which will overlook Ballpark Village's infield plaza, will have two indoor bars and an outdoor patio. Busch Stadium will be the latest sports facility with a Sports & Social nearby. The concept also has locations near the stadiums of the Atlanta Braves, the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.

The steakhouse, Davio’s, will be housed on the ground floor of Live! by Loews, the 216-room hotel being built as part of the Ballpark Village’s second phase. Davio’s currently has 12 locations. Also slated to be located on the ground floor of the new hotel is retailer Baseballism, which sells baseball-themed apparel and accessories. The retailer has nine locations nationwide.

Wednesday’s announcement did not provide details on when the three tenants will open their venues. The major components of Ballpark Village 700,000-square-foot expansion will open on a staggered time frame. Tenants for the development’s 10-story Class A office tower moved in last week. Onelife Fitness, which will anchor the three-story retail pavilion, is expected to open at the start of 2020. The Live! by Loews hotel is planned to start operation in the first quarter of 2020, and the project’s 29-story apartment tower is slated to open in the second quarter of next year.
