KC Heart Walk set for June 16

The America Heart Association’s Kansas City Heart Walk and 5K is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. When the Heart Walk reaches their 2018 fundraising goal of $820,000, they will donate P.E. equipment to the Clubs to keep youth active. The Walk will take place at Power & Light District is a free community event.

The Heart & Stroke Walk is an experience, creating an atmosphere to honor survivors and their families, educate individuals, inspire participants, and celebrate lifestyle change successes.

Generation Z is the first generation expected to not outlive their parents. The American Heart Association is addressing health disparities and childhood obesity by teaming up with community organizations. Cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of men and women nationwide, and 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented.

Walking is the single most effective form of exercise to achieve heart health. The benefits of walking and moderate physical activity for as little as 30 minutes each day can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
