Guy Fieri's new Dive & Taco Joint offers much more than tacos

Even if you don't like tacos, Guy Fieri's Dive & Taco Joint is worth it just for the conversation pieces.

The new eatery in the Kansas City Power & Light District embraces a funky vibe. In one section, a checkers-inspired floor contrasts with a painted American flag on the wall. There's a crinkled photo of Nicolas Cage next to a hub cap and a wood beam where tiny mice in dresses peak out through the holes. And it found a new use for America's overabundance of fidget-spinners – they've been tacked to a wall as artwork.

As for food, the restaurant at 1333 Grand Blvd. offers a variety of tacos, including al pastor; achiote chicken; diablo shrimp; and the cheeseburger, which features seasoned ground beef, shredded cabbage, cheddar, "super melty cheese," tomato, onion, pickle, Donkey sauce and crispy corn tortillas. Menu offerings also include quesadillas, empanadas, Mexican street corn salad, the taquito piquito burrito, and the trash can nachos, which are served in a faux trash can.

The full-service bar features signature margaritas, including the Roasted Hawaiian, made with tequila with triple sec, lime and lemon juices, roasted pineapple puree and garnished with a slice of grilled pineapple.

Although the taco eatery opened Thursday, it's not Fieri's first connection to Kansas City. He was among the American Royal's first class of inductees into the National Barbecue Hall of Fame, and he has featured several local restaurants on his popular TV show, "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
