Taubman Realty, Cordish Cos. plan dining, entertainment addition for Dolphin Mall
The Dolphin Mall could receive a major infusion of dining and entertainment thanks to a project planned by Taubman Realty Group and Cordish Cos.
One of South Florida's largest malls, the 1.4 million-square-foot Dolphin Mall in Sweetwater is owned by Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based Taubman Realty Group, a joint venture between Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) and the Taubman family. Baltimore-based Cordish is being brought in to help with the new dining and entertainment venture at the mall.
Cordish will develop 32,000 square feet of interior space and a 30,000-square-foot outdoor plaza for dining and entertainment. Sports & Social will serve as the anchor with 15,000 square feet of dining and LED screens so diners can watch sports games.
With rising competition from e-commerce, many malls are trying to reinvent themselves and draw more customers by enhancing the dining and entertainment on site.
"Dolphin Mall is already the market-dominant shopping and dining destination in Miami," said Taubman President and Chief Operating Officer William Taubman. "Working with The Cordish Companies to bring this new concept to the mall is just one of the ways in which we will ensure it remains fresh and exciting for customers and sees continued success well into the future."
Mark Knauer of Highwood, Illinois-based Knauer Inc. will design the Sports & Social space. It's expected to be ready in winter 2022.
There are currently eight Sports & Social locations. This would be the first one in Florida.
