The long-anticipated $700 million Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia, a 510,000-square-foot development that includes a casino with 2,100 slot machines, 208-key hotel and 15,000 square feet of event space, finally opened at 900 Packer Ave. in South Philadelphia last January. It came eight years after Baltimore-based Cordish Cos. had responded to a request for proposals for the new venue on the site of what had been a Holiday Inn. The development joined Xfinity Live! and adds to the venues at the Stadium Complex in Philadelphia. The project is anticipated to generate more than $2 billion in economic activity for Philadelphia, along with $100 million in tax revenue for the city within five years.
