'First of its kind’ PBR Lockhart Smokehouse opens at Bridge Street

It’s about fusing Texas barbecue with the cowboy spirit.

That’s how Scott Steenrod, COO of Live! Hospitality and Entertainment describes Bridge Street Town Centre’s newest bar and restaurant.

PBR Lockhart Smokehouse opened in Huntsville on Thursday.

It is a collaboration that brings together two iconic brands, PBR Cowboy Bar and Lockhart Smokehouse.

“We are so excited to continue our partnership with Professional Bull Riders, and the Bergus family with their legendary Lockhart Smokehouse concept to bring this new collaboration to life,” Steenrod said.

“We are thrilled to be bringing central Texas barbecue to the state of Alabama and Huntsville community for the first time,” added Jill Bergus, owner of Lockhart Smokehouse. She describes the venture as a “first of its kind” venue.

Steenrod said the concept for the restaurant and bar is modeled after their partnership with Texas Live! In the Dallas area.

“If you go into Texas Live! there is a PBR on the second level and a Lockhart Smokehouse underneath it,” Steenrod said. “We just saw from that a very natural synergy and an amazing response from our guests, who liked the relationship between the two. It was like they can go downstairs and have a great barbecue dinner. Then they can go upstairs and dance the night away at the Cowboy Bar.

“And so, it was almost an organic evolution because of that experience at Texas Live,” he added. “We said ‘what if we create a collaboration of these two amazing brands in a single location?’ "

Steenrod said the team at Bridge Street is focused on “what we call country-inspired hospitality, caring, fun, highly trained service.”

“It’s a high-energy, very spirited experience,” he said. “It’s got a lot of almost whimsy energy to it. It’s a great place to celebrate for a small group, daytime, evening time.”

PBR Lockhart Smokehouse is designed to fit the western, cowboy spirit theme with wood paired with polished materials and elements of rustic charm, combined with authentic smokers and custom western chandeliers. The main restaurant space features a signature bar with an elevated rustic feel that blends copper, textured wood and illuminated ribbed glass, according to the owners.

Steenrod said the restaurant will have “a very traditional Texas barbecue menu.”

Featured on the menu are beef brisket, chicken, turkey and original or Jalapeno Kreuz Sausage shipped in from Texas.

“We have both pork chops and pork ribs,” he said. “It’s a very traditional carved at the counter experience. It’s created in a 100-year tradition or preparation.”

The restaurant flows out to an outdoor patio for dining and socializing. It features fire pits and string lights. It will also serve as an entertainment space, Steenrod said.

“We’ve got a beautiful patio,” he said. “That’s one element that we’re really very thoughtful on in the design. It’s kind of a unique element to the overall experience. Weather permitting, we’ll have live entertainment out there Thursday through Sunday.”

Steenrod said the live entertainment will typically be country solo acts and duos.

“We typically won’t have a full band,” he said.

The live performances will typically be 6 p.m.=9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Inside, we always have a D.J. who is here to host parties and play a musical selection based on the time of day and what the crowd wants to hear.”

There will also be a mechanical bull and sports watching inside.

“Bridge Street is excited to be part of bringing this first-of-its-kind combination of dining and entertainment to Huntsville,” said Haley Buie, marketing manager for Bridge Street Town Centre. “The delicious food, live music and dynamic atmosphere is not to be missed.”

Steenrod said the owners liked the Bridge Street location because “it is the preeminent dining and entertainment center in Huntsville.”

“There was a real commitment from the management from Bridge Street to bring innovative brands and portfolios,” he said.

Steenrod said the owners also liked Huntsville “because it is a city on the move.”

“It’s an amazing community,” he said. “We’re really confident that our unique brand, PBR Lockhart would resonate with the Huntsville community.”

PBR Lockhart Smokehouse is located at Bridge Street Town Centre at 455 The Bridge Street, Suite 120, and will be open Monday-Wednesday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m. - 2 a.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. For more information on PBR
