Mr. Cordish is chairman of one of the largest and oldest privately held development companies in the United States. The Cordish Company is headquartered in Baltimore and has offices throughout the country.
The Cordish Company is widely recognized as one of the leaders nationally in the field of entertainment development and its own operation of entertainment venues, restaurants, live performance, and gaming. The company owns and manages more than 40 million square feet of commercial, hotel, and residential development.
Mr. Cordish has served on numerous national, state, and local boards, including professional, civic, and charitable. He has acted as a pro bono consultant to Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College, Stevenson University, and other non-profit entities. Mr. Cordish was the recipient of the 2004 Johns Hopkins Real Estate Program’s Leadership Award, and numerous other regional and national honors and awards.
Last year Mr. Cordish personally went door-to-door in Anne Arundel County urging voters to pass the slots referendum. Voters overwhelmingly supported the measure that would allow his company to build the Maryland Live! casino at Arundel Mills mall in Hanover. The Cordish Company broke ground on the $1 billion, approximately 300,000-square-foot casino on January 27, 2011.
Maryland Live! is expected to be the state's highest revenue-generating gaming facility, featuring 4,750 slot and electric table games. Ruth's Chris Steak House, The Cheescake Factory, Bobby Flay, Obrycki's Seafood and Rams Head Live music venue all have committed to the project. The gaming, dining and entertainment complex is slated to be completed in mid-2012.
The Cordish Company was involved in several other exciting projects in the Baltimore-Washington corridor in 2010, including work on a new mixed-used development on Baltimore's Superblock, in the 200 block of West Lexington Street.
The Cordish Company signed several new tenants for the Power Plant Live! entertainment and office complex in downtown Baltimore, including Two Boots, which opened in July, and Tatu, which opened in August. In December the company announced an $11 million makeover for Power Plant Live! that includes new bars and restaurants, as well as an outdoor stage with a canopy. PBR Baltimore (Professional Bull Riders) and the Baltimore Comedy Factory both opened in March, 2011.
For Mr. Cordish and his company, 2011 is already shaping up to be another signature year.
